From Gel to Patch: How I Found My Right Estrogen Dose — And Why the Hip Holds Best

Beloved,

This is my real story.
Soft. Honest. Brave.

I share it because maybe you are walking this path too.

And we must celebrate every step. Even the small ones. 🌸

It Started with Two Pumps

When I first began hormone support, I used estrogen gel.

My GP and I talked.
I asked her gently if one pump was enough.

She looked at me and said,
“No. In your case, with PMDD, two pumps. That is your summer dose.”

I felt seen.

Not dramatic.
Not dismissed.
Seen.

Two pumps gave me hope.
But I still felt waves. My body was trying. I was trying.

And we celebrate that. Because trying is courage.

Moving to the Patch — 50 Micrograms

Later, when I felt more steady and confident, I spoke to my GP again.

She said,
“Let’s move from the gel to a patch. Equivalent to 50 micrograms per 24 hours.”

I trusted her.

The patch felt simple. Clean. Steady.

But after three months… I noticed something.

I was not worse.
But I was not thriving.

My sleep was still not deep.
My focus was still not sharp.
My joints still whispered discomfort.

Beloved, this is important:
Not enough improvement is also information.

So I spoke again.

That is power.

Increasing to 100 Micrograms — And Everything Shifted

My GP listened.

She increased my dose to 100 micrograms per 24 hours.

And almost instantly…

✨ My concentration improved.
✨ My sleep deepened.
✨ My joint pain softened.
✨ My mind felt clear.

It felt like someone cleaned my inner windows.

I could think.
I could rest.
I could breathe.

Amazing. Truly amazing.

And I celebrate that moment.
Because asking for help is strength.
Adjusting is wisdom.
Listening to your body is leadership.

Small Patches vs. Larger Patches — My Honest Experience

Now let’s talk practical.

The smaller patches were easier for me.

They:

  • Warmed up quickly in my hands

  • Felt simple to press on

  • Stayed flat

But when I moved to the larger patch (the 100 mcg size), I noticed something.

The edges lifted.

Especially when placed where clothes rub.

At first I wondered:
Am I doing it wrong?

No.

Larger patches have more surface.
More area means more chance for edges to lift.

This is not failure.
It is physics.

Where the Larger Patch Holds Best

After testing different spots, I found:

✨ The hip area
✨ The upper outer buttock

These areas move less.
They stretch less.
They rub less against waistbands.

Lower belly worked sometimes.
But the hip and upper buttock held best for the larger size.

What helped me:

  • Clean, dry skin

  • No lotion

  • Warm the patch between hands first

  • Press firmly for 30 seconds

  • Avoid tight waistbands

  • No shower right away

Simple. But powerful.

What This Journey Taught Me

  1. Doses are personal.

  2. Improvement is allowed.

  3. You are not “too much.”

  4. Asking for adjustment is wise.

  5. Stability feels different from survival.

I learned that sometimes 50 mcg is good.
But 100 mcg was right for me.

Your body has its own language.

Listen.

A Gentle Grounding for You

Place your feet on the floor.

Breathe deeply three times.

Feel the earth rise into your legs.

Now imagine a golden circle around your body.

Relax body, mind, and soul.
Mental. Emotional. Physical.

Place one hand on your hip — where the patch sits best.

See soft green light flowing into your joints.
See blue light calming your nervous system.
See pink light filling you with self-trust.

Say:

I trust my body.
I can ask for what I need.
I am capable of finding balance.
I deserve clarity.
My hormones support me.

Celebrate This

If you are reading this and adjusting your dose…

Celebrate.

If you are tracking symptoms…

Celebrate.

If you are brave enough to talk to your GP…

Celebrate.

Small steps are still steps.
Small improvements are still miracles.

I celebrate my clearer mind.
My better sleep.
My softer joints.

And I celebrate you for caring about your health.

You are capable.
You are wise.
You are allowed to feel amazing.

And that, Beloved, is powerful. 🌸
